Joseph J. Onufrak drew on more than 25 years of legal and national title underwriting experience in his position as senior vice president and senior underwriting counsel at Liberty Title Agency. Joe was a highly respected and invaluable member of the Liberty Family of Companies who genuinely will be missed by one and all.
Trained at Weil, Gotschal and at Simpson Thacher, he practiced real estate law as a partner in Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine and McDermott Will & Emery - representing money center banks, capital market financiers, national portfolio owners and investors, condominium developers, landlords and corporate headquarters tenants, and public sector lenders. Throughout Joe's impressive career, he sold, acquired, leased, ground leased, developed, and financed every kind of real estate interest in virtually every state for clients.
In addition to his work for Liberty, Joe taught at New York University's Real Estate Institute and presented regularly before state and county bar associations. He was an honors graduate of Rutgers University School of Law, where Joe edited the Law Review, and of Iona College. He achieved advanced degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park and Columbia University. Joe also was an active member of the community - faithfully serving in leadership positions in charitable and civic organizations.

I knew Joe from his days at Donovan, Leisure where he loved the challenges of a complex mortgage transaction. When we expanded Liberty Title to New York City, we were delighted that Joe agreed to join us there. During his time with us, I came to appreciate not only Joe's fervor as an attorney but also his devotion to his colleagues, his wife Lorraine, and his children. Joe fought the good fight and will be greatly missed.
